What is a “good” lead?

Forgive the pun but the word “lead” can be very misleading. You can pull up a list of people whose demographic fits the profile of your possible buyers and call these leads. Maybe so, but I think that it is a stretch to call these leads when they are really no more than names.

Sales leads are as varied in type and quality as are sales people. At the least, a lead is a name. Just find a phone number, make sure it is not on the DNC, call and ask if this person might be interested in your product.

Hum…. don’t think that would be much fun.

At the best, a lead is a prospective buyer with full contact information who has confirmed interest in speaking with you about your product or service, has asked you to contact him/her and is expecting your call. Now that’s a lead!
